Instant Replay, almost

Post by vaguru »

Here is another pic of a fine doe I took this afternoon at 4:20 pm. I parked the truck at 4:05 pm and walked in to one of my favorite ground sites. I was walking the deer trail through the cedar thicket and was 2 yds from my spot, when, I saw a deer traveling towards me on the trail. I kneeled down and got ready as I saw it was a large deer. When the deer came around a small curve on the trail clearing a cedar tree, it spotted me and froze. Too late, the Slick Trick tipped GT Laser II was on its way! She was very slightly quartering towards me and I aimed for the off side lung. The crack at impact was all I heard. She turned to run back from whence she came. I thought I saw her circle and run back to my left, then look back at me, but it was another deer (I determined later).

I looked for the arrow breifly but didn't see it anywhere. I then looked for hair, found none, and decided to look for blood. Found some and followed very slowly to determine her direction of travel. This is when I noticed she went to my right, not left. I saw her laying in front of me, traveled but 40 yds tops. Didn't hear her fall due to moss and carpet of cedar needles.

I was out a total of 15 minutes this trip. She had "made" me twice before on this spot last week. Moving too fast today!

Nice you caught her unprepared. I wonder if she spotted you or just remembered to look for you.

Mike,

The legs were still somewhat sore, and now a bit more! Just gotta keep pushing. Can't not go out, it's one of my motivations for life! After all, come January, I'll have lots of time to "heal up"!
