For Those Who Wondered ...

Post by Grizzly Adam »

... if my recently built bridge across the canal survived the Great Nor'easter Flood of 2009:

Indeed, it did. :D

It's just fine. 8)

The treadway is still about ten inches under water, but I designed it to function in high water too. I waded across just slick as you please this morning. Remember ... knee-high rubber boots are standard outdoor wear when hunting here!

If anything, it's a bit more solid than it was when I first built it, because the muck around it's posts has settled a lot since last week. I anticipated that this would be the case.

Only one problem: As I expected, a bear is biting big chunks out of the "chicken board" stairs up the side of the dike.

In a way, I hate bears. You can't have anything because of them. :? They chew up anything made out of wood. :(

At least, it will survive this season and perhaps help me to build something bear-proof.

One thing's sure: I doubt it will ever see more of a flood than this recent one!

Very good Grizz, I was wondering.

I hope we never see a gator wearing a pair of knee high rubber boots.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.

They standard gear here all year round. :D

Glad to see the bridge survived the flood. That is engineering at it's best!

Its good to know that it survived the "extra" water that flowed. Looking at the picture there was plenty of water!

You did a Mighty fine job building that Bridge Grizz!! Lucky you did Not have any Engineers involved! It would have cost Twice as much to build and it would have floated away for Sure
