My dream backyard buck falls today!

Post by crazyfarmer »

A few have known about this deer. I first saw him back in July in my backyard. He was the biggest buck I had seen alive around here in full Velvet. I got within 75 yards of this buck and since he wasnt afraid then I got to get all the detail on him I needed. He was a mainframe 4x4 with a 2inch drop on his right MB. On this left MB he had a split G2 and a kicker off that. He also had another small point growing out past the G3. A perfect 12pt. Now when I see a deer of this class I dont tell anyone(ill post smaller bucks but not big deer). If you do, everyone moves in to hunt them. I set 4 different stands around my house and across the road. I couldnt pattern this buck for nothing since he moved totally at night. Plus the fact that tiber is being cut non stop down my road has them all scattered and im pretty sure this is why this deer showed hisself. I put the cuddeback up behind my house and finally got 1 picture of him. Exactly as I thought from watching at night with binos and a light(legal here but no guns present). The biggest deer of my life was in my backyard and the 5acre block of woods here. He wasnt staying in that woods though. He roamed in a 4-5mile circle. I had his pattern but it was a guessing game now. Well I hunted this buck for 10 days total with no luck. Thats when I moved spots and took the other 2 bucks. But I had one buck on my mind the whole time. I tired him once more early this week only to get basically run over by the loggers in the woods. Well this morning a 14 year old boy took this gaint. He had been hunting every morning up a stand before school starts. His dad would drop him off and pick him up and take to school. Talk about devotion. He's a quiet kid but his passion for hunting is showing. He had no scent lok or the high dollar gismo's the most use. Just a pair of coveralls and a shotgun. Shortly after daybreak his gaint walks by at 30 yards and he unloads 3 shots. BBD! In fact a 26.5inch spread 12pt BBD. The pics dont really show this guy well. He looks smaller with the kid holding him but this is a gaint for my woods. I would score him at 175B&C just by looking. I hope he brings him by so I can score him later tonight.

but here are the pics... its a sad day for me but a happy day for a 14 year old kid with probably his best deer of his life. I wanted to fill my last tag on this guy, but it wasnt meant to be. This is why we love hunting. You never know what's over the hill or what tomorrow could bring

I see he has been taking lessons from you regarding the proper method to pose with a big buck.

I really did think you were going to get this buck CF.

Let us know what he green scores.

Congratulations to the young guy!! What a super buck.

He's got the bug for sure, and he knows the cure.

Nice buck, an experience to remember, and a happy young man! Can't beat that. :D

I'm sure you'll understand when I say that I'm glad he got him instead of you, Crazy! :D

There will be others.

Great looking buck. I learned alot from this story mainly if crazy is showing pics of nice bucks that means I should head straight for his place to hunt the big one he's not posting pics of. Long drive but might have to try it.

I'm sure it's a consolation that if you couldn't get him a kid that is that involved in hunting did!
Sounds like the young man worked hard for him, spending that much time in the stand.

CF,

I know that must be a tough pill to swallow due to the amount of effort you put into that big buck. Knowing you though, you'll just move on to the next deer on your list. Good luck the rest of the season.

I agree, considering most of the kids I know have trouble even getting out of bed for school.

Congrats to him!!

Mike, I can only get 157 gross out of him. He just doesnt have the tine length to add up. Longest MB is 24 7/8th, tallest G2 is 10 2/8th(other is 8), inside spread is 22 5/8th while outside is 27 1/8th at the widest kicker to kicker. He just doesnt have the lengths to add up score wide but he's a sheer brute in size looking at him. I re scored my other buck and im getting 142 out of him so this would have been a bigger deer non the less LOL.

looking at him he looks like a 170inch deer but the numbers dont do him justice in the score department
