Getting soft.

Post by Shotnbeer »

Got home tonight 45 min. before dark. Walked out back behind the shed and spotted a doe with this years fawn, a button buck. The doe kept looking into the woods behind her. That is when I spotted a nice eight point. As I was watching the doe she was trying to run off the fawn and the buck was worried more about the doe than my presents. Had my trail cam set up so I think I got some good pictures. The seasons is still in within this zone and I could have walked into the house got the Vortex and finished my buck season off in 5 minutes. Instead I went into the house and had a beer and watched them out the back window. Maybe I'm getting weak. Bear season in PA next week and the rifle season follows. It's not over till its over, or until my wife say's I have to knock it off.

Bet its great to live in an area where you can see stuff like that in your back yard. Good luck in your future hunts.

My season would have been over in a Second in that situation

You can't kill all of the deer, all of the time.

Nor should you!

It's good to let 'em go sometimes. Having the choice is nice ... and you have it a lot more when you live where the game does too! :D

I have passed a few shots simply because I didn't want to face the necessity of trailing, field dressing, tagging, and delivering the deer to the processor's cooler.

I know how that is. I have a few deer in the freezer, a doe and a 9pt., but

for sure I will hunt until the seasons over.

Only now....I'll be switching back and forth with a large camera around

my neck.

It may not be the wisest way to hunt, as I haven't shot HIM yet, but

I really don't care........It's my thing..........and that's what I do.

Me too, Wabi ... I butcher my own, and do so immediately, so when I kill a deer, I'm creating some real work to be done right away. When I kill two (and I often do), I'm creating a lot of real work to be done right away ... but I do that sometimes because while you're at it, you might as well work up two as one.

I've had the crosshairs on many a deer that I didn't shoot ... all because I didn't want to deal with it that day! :P

Yea, you'll be naming them next...like I do.
Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.

Why hunt? Simple, it's BASIC. Why breath?!

Around here, close to the house is a no-shooting zone and will stay that way. As for hunting, I have no idea how many shots I passed on this year but it was a lot....and I'm talking on bucks only. Tons of does.
Keep smiling!

Not sure you could have finished your buck season legally if you had shot him on the evening of the 20th of November (evening of your post)! Season ended last Saturday on the 14th for bucks statewide. If you're in WMU 2B you could have harvested an antlerless deer, but not the eight point you saw!
