A Wonderful Evening of NOT HUNTING
Yes, that's right.
I had a wonderful evening.
Outdoors.
In a prime hunting area.
In perfect hunting weather.
In good hunting conditions.
In a spot where game abounds.
And hunting wasn't a part of it.
I didn't sneak in trying not to disturb game.
I didn't spend time setting up to see, intercept, or ambush game.
I didn't try to stay hidden from game.
I didn't spend time being quiet or searching for game.
I didn't worry about whether I saw game, or if game saw me.
And I had a wonderful time.
I went out.
I built a fire.
I made a quick-adjust bush tripod.
I boiled a pot of water and made some tea.
I roasted some smoked sausage.
I cooked some gumbo.
I ate.
I drank.
I watched the sun set.
I watched the fire.
I thought.
I rested.
I listened to the night come.
And I enjoyed myself.
Not hunting.
So ... it can be done.

You're exactly right about that, Munch!munch wrote:grizz now you got that out of your system
I NEEDED to do that. I had to. I don't know how to explain it.
After our Thanksgiving dinner, everyone else was sitting around in my brother-in-law's house playing cards ... so I came home about an hour before dark and hit the woods.
I like to do that every once in a while. Like I said, I need to.
I like to grab my kit, maybe something to cook, head out and make a fire from what I find around me, rig up a quick camp and enjoy myself for a while.
I enjoy bushcraft skills period.
When I was younger, before I started working with adults, my youth group used to call me Wilderness Scout!
Sometimes I just want to stay out there!
Grizz
grizz momma thinks i'm the only one that would do something like that .to me playing cards and watching tv is lost time .

Good on you Grizz. That sounds like a perfect recipe for relaxation.
This afternoon my son and I went to check the game cam pics, picked some wild oyster mushrooms, cruised the back swamp, and talked to the landowner. No killing done, but a great outing.
Back home for grilled salmon, mushrooms and Brussel sprouts.
A great day by my standards, as was yours.
Sitting back and taking it ALL in is what it's all about.
