Sorry to hear of the accident.

I was setting in my ground blind yesterday evening mentally debating with myself on the need for me having a tree stand anymore. The stands can be dangerous in a moment of carelessness, and I can't think of many places I hunt where the blind isn't just as efficient.

The 3 point hold is something I always make sure of. Even then things can happen. One of my sons is an x-ray tech. He says lots of guys come in (or are brought in) in the fall having fallen while going up or being in stands.

I have often put up stands without wearing a safety belt. Really stupid. No more. If I saw one of my boys doing that I'd chew em up one side and down the other. And if I fell I know what they'd tell me having heard it every once in a while as they were growing up. "If you are going to be dumb......ya gotta be tough".

Glad this man was not hurt worse. Hope he heals quickly.

Statistics show that one of three using a tree stand will have an accident sometime. It may not be life threatening but then. I took a ladder stand for a ride two years ago, since then ground blinds look better to me.

Better his ankles then his neck! I wish him a speedy recovery. My brother fell out a long time ago broke his nasal cavity and almost his neck I was hunting up the mountain from him heard him yelling for help before he passed out. I knew exactly what happen as I ran down the mountain I was praying he did break his neck. That will make you learn to wear your safety strap. I was in a store buying a soda one morning when I was on my way to hunt. The lady behind the counter asked what I was wearing over my hunting suit. I told her it was a safety strap she laughed and told me how her husband used tree stands all the time he never wore anything like that. I laughed and said well your husband must be a idiot because I wont get in mine without a strap. Broken bones hurt.

Sorry to read about your wife's Uncle's accident. I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

I have not used my climber this season, was able to get a deer from the ground using my Exocet, an Undertaker ground blind and a 2D bedded deer decoy. As the years go by I'm liking ground hunting more and more and tree stand hunting less and less not so much from a safety stand point but from setting up on the ground being less of a hassle.

Take care...

...wishing him a speedy recovery!....i fell out 18ft from my portable 5 yrs ago. Landed like a cat on all fours. Broke both wrists, finger, bruised my ribs, and cut open my eye lid and had a fat concussion on my head!..jumped into shock and somehow managed to walk home in the darkness with my injuries!..Doc said there must of been an angel guiding me the whole way. I was out of work for 2 months and laid on the couch living off of percesets!...i had my belt on and took it off and i fell as i was starting to climb down!...please be careful everyone!...i now use the "fall guy" system....your attached 100% of the time. Even while climbing!

I also wish him a speedy recovery.

Man just wasn't meant to be in trees, otherwise, we would have claws instead of finger nails.
