F-F-F-FR-FRR-FRRREEE-FREEZE WARNING!

Post by Grizzly Adam »

Yep.

That's right.

Here in the humid subtropical climate of Eastern North Carolina!

They're calling for temps of 30-34 degrees F by morning.

It's 47 degrees F right now.

I hope we'll make it. :P

I know you Canucks are laughing.

At least it'll get the deer moving.

I just might take 'Ol Death Wind out in the morning ... if I thaw out quick enough. :D  8)

A balmy 35ºF here in Ohio right now, with a low of 26ºF predicted.

Actually our weather has been warm so far, and this cold today had me carefully selecting the plumbing jobs I tackled! (all indoor work for today!  )

Not sure what the temp was yesterday evening, but it was cool enough for me have an excuse to make sure the propane heater I keep in the blind would still work. I had two of the full windows in the doghouse open and the little (1500 BTU) heater kept me cozy.

Actually, this is my favorite time of year here ... it's a snapshot-bright bluebird day and should get up around 60F.

Although that is a little cold. :P

I got up this morning at a little after 7 AM and looked at the thermometer outside. It was reading 26 degrees F.

Yesterday morning it was around 30 degrees when I was sitting in our little 4' x 8' shooting shack up in the woods. The little propane heater in front of me felt good!

I've sat that spot 5 times now, with 3 of them being all day. Not a deer one making an appearance. :x The camera shows a few deer, but they're all after dark. The boy and I are going up there in the morning, rimfires at the ready, and thin out some of the squirrels.

Of course though, with as cold as it's going to be, I'm going to have to take the heater again........... you know, for the boy.....

Well, it wasn't as cold as I thought it was going to be this morning. It was only about 32 this morning when we left the house at 5:00 AM.

The boy about run me out of that little shooting shack with that heater! By the time it ended up, I had a sweatshirt on and was about ready to shed it for just a short sleeve shirt! LOL!

We only saw 3 squirrels and got 2 of them. The boy has been hunting with me several times, but has never actually "shot at" anything other than paper. He found out this morning that hitting those squirrels isn't quite as easy as daddy has made it look.  He shot at 2 of the squirrels and missed them both! That's the great thing about squirrels though, it doesn't matter a whole lot if you miss.

We still had a good time and got a little bit of meat, which is what it's all about.
