Moving Day

Post by saxman »

I went to my spots today utterly disgusted at the lack of deer sightings. So,I moved 3 of my 5 locations.
WOW!!! That was tough work but I have to do something to shake things up.
2 of the spots are perfect for the crossbow

I am a firm beliver in not over hunting a stand. Also the worst thing you can do is walk around a stand location as it leaves your scent warning the deer at night that you are using that area. Its good to move around to new areas to keep the deer from patterning you. Dont give up on your old stands, just give them a break. Move around from one stand site to another as often as you can and dont leave your scent on every bush by walking around looking for sign.

good luck. I have to redo a few of my stands for next year. Need a little more room in some of them for a compound bow. Work seems to really interfer with my hunting season. Was going to hunt all last weekend and decided with snow coming to side my new hurricane proff shed my son built me. Went through last winter with just tyvek. Was not a money issue just finding time. To bad we have to eat!

Sounds like a change of locations might just be the thing. I usually move about half my stands & blinds every year. I like to leave them out year-round and whenever one gets slow I look for a new hotspot. The deer change travel routes frequently where I hunt. A lot of things can cause a move (beaver dams, logging, crop changes, new homes, etc.) and sometimes it pays to scout new locations.
Good luck with the new locations!!!!!!!!!

I live in Extreeme N.E Florida.
Just a couple miles south of he GA border.Second exit in FL.
You are most likely speaking of palatka Fl.
Very nice,Country people, good Hog ,Turkey and deer hunting.
They use dogs because the woods are so thick.
It never fails, when I post a kill shot someone always comments on how thick it is where I hunt. You just have to see it and live it to believe how tough it is.
The dogs can get where we cant.i miss dog hunting very much.
Nothing like a good race.I love to watch the face of a dog hunting newbi when they hear the dogs jump a deer or bay a pig.you can see the goosebumps,I have them now just writing about it.
We have sold the dogs as my dad is to old and brokedown and I am just to broke down to do it anymore.

If you do come down, let me know and we can meet up and yall come eat with us.
Maybe we can get in a hunt.

..I am too convinced that we should never "over hunt" one stand. I usually have 2 stands at each piece of property i hunt and rotate where i hunt as much as possible!...I have one property that is only 9 acres and i have 4 stands on it alone!
