deer hunting stages
What stage of the rut are we at in Southern Ontario? Should I still be rattling or just grunt and bleat? Ray.

Re: deer hunting stages
In my opinion I wouldn't bother rattling at this stage, the first or primary rut has passed and pecking orders have already been established. At this point I think it would spook more bucks than it would attract. They are tired and beat up for the most part after the primary rut and are not interested in fighting. Hunt feeding areas as the 2nd rut should be getting under way, doe's will be hitting the feed bag pretty hard and the bucks will be checking feeding areas for 2nd estrus cycle and are beginning to show more interest in food also.

I think FH has it right on. I have noticed a few more scrapes and tree rubs along field edges where does feed. Could be some pre 2nd rut activity
