API Grand Slam climber...anyone have one?

Post by LondonDave »

Good, bad or otherwise? I have a guy interested in making a trade with me for one. Just wondering how they rate as far as climbers go.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave,

I have 3 API Grand Slams and 1 Summit. They are a very solid, reliable and comfortable stand. I prefer the chain style cable of the API over the cable of the Summit, they seem to grip the tree better than my Summit. The drawbacks of the API are:

1. Uses pins to lock in the cable, always carry a spare pin in your pack in case you lose one in the leaves.

2. The plastic coating on my original chains was crap and required replacing after 1 season, the new replacement chains have a heavier plastic wrap that has shown no wear. Not sure if this is the standard for new stands or not.
