Bi-pod Help

Post by deerdhunter »

I have never used a bi-pod or even examined one up close but I am considering one for my Excalibur. I know I have seen some on the site but can't remember who had them. I would want one that would bolt right on & allow me to use a sling. Can anyone give me pro's & con's and suggestions? Would appreciate any help.

I would consider a monopod long before I tried a bipod on a crossbow, it is tough to find anything that fits because the stock on the Excalibur is so robust.
If you are looking to steady the bow at the base of a tree you may want to have a look at this:

I have had this in my hands, to me it is ideal for a crossbow, once you deploy the legs they just jump right in to position, half the price of a good bi-pod too.

I use the Primos Trigger stick in mono. It's easier to get it to the right height fast. I also found a way to strap it on to my front sling attachment so it is more in a ready position while I'm waiting.

I haven't had much problem holding it still. I have held it on some deer that I let go. I like it because if you want to move with a walking deer the V swivels and you can just lean forward or backward for slight variations in elevation. The adjustment is up near the top where you would be holding your crossbow anyway and not lower on the leg, so there is minimal movement. I just thread the rubber strap (that would normally go over a gun barrel) through the slot in the sling swivel and secure it.

I had lots of time to sit and ponder this rig.

I haven't gotten good results using a mono-pod but this has only been with my two Ruger hunting revolvers not with a CB or even a rifle for that matter. For this my first season CB hunting I made a bi-pod by band sawing a sapling down the middle, used a small bolt with washers and a wing nut for the pivot point. A string near the bottom of the legs allowed me to make some height adjustments. As luck would have it with the deer I shot this season I had to lift the CB off the rest in order to take the deer.

I'll be watching this thread as I think I would like a bi-pod with adjusable legs and a rotating yoke.

Take care...

I have several, either purchased or made from camera tripod, however, find the Horton Knee Pod very useful...from a sitting position....like tree stand or ground blind.
Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.

I use the 3 section, 64". Sitting will be as low to the ground as I will hunt.

I use this one: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?p ... 49#enlarge

I can switch it from crossbow to to crossbow and also to rifles by buying additional attachment gizmos. It is quick to attached/detach, you can swivel the bow or rifle side to side plus cant it up or down Legs extend to whatever length you need even if ground is uneven!
You sure you can skin griz, pilgrim??

Most of the stock mounted bi-pods I have seen are for prone shooting and don't adjust very high.
