new to the forum, wanted to introduce myself

Post by Wide8pt »

Guess I'm the new guy now. I've been bow hunting for 17 years, mostly vertical, until last year i bought an exocet and put it into play. No reason for the switch, just wanted to try something different.
Dec. 12 I got to try my bow for the first time. I was in stand watching a real nice 10 or 12 on the far side of the field from my stand. The trail leads from there to my stand,so i knew he would be coming at some point just not sure when. Sitting as still as i can be, I caught sight of a deer in my peripheral, so i slowly looked to my left and here he came, a wide 8 with some mass! Couldn't believe it. The week prior to this we got 40 iches of snow so the trail and his destination were certain. He came to 18 yds and i let the rage fly and doublelunged him! He wheeled, ran 25 yds, clipped a branch, and both horns fell off!Never seen that before in my life. He ran another 20 yds and submerined with just his rump sticking out. First buck with a bow, first deer with my exocet! Best i could tell, he was around 20 inches wide and dressed 225 lbs.
I'm fairly green far as the crossbow goes, so any tips would be a help!
Looking forward to talking to you all! :)

What a way to start with your first crossbow harvest
On the bright side you recovered your first deer shot at, you did not have a mentality that it was a gun/bow so the shot was not at an absurd range .
I applaud you for a FANTASTIC hunt . :D
As for information wade through the back pages with searchs and be amazed by the knowledge . OR ask away there is no such thing as a dumb question , for the most part I think we have all done something not too bright and learned from that experience .
Welcome to the Worlds best crossbow forum

Welcome to the forum!

I don't know if you realize it but the Exocet model happens to come with a built in deer magnet. :)

Take care...

That's the worst case of "ground shrinkage" I've heard of!

Welcome . . .cool story about the horns. I guess he figured if you got the horns, then you would let him go.

What broadheads are you using?
