Another new guy

Post by nick »

Just like to say hi to everybody.Been reading on here since I bought my exomax last year.I Was a big time bow hunter for years and wanted to try a crossbow,Now I cant get enough of it.But like everybody else on here I want to try some new things.Have a few questions on maybe trying some heavier arrows. shooting carbons right now.If I was to go heavier would it be less vibration on the bow.?And is aluminum the only way to go heavier?I was also thinking about trying a custom string. Is it worth the money to get one?what should I expect from one?And how do I get one?Any info or feed back would be great..Thanks

Going heavier is possible with the right carbon arrows. Any carbon that can use the 110 gr brass insert helps from jump street. Also the front inserts that have threaded hole all the way thru can have set screws of diff weights used. Alum. are the easiest to add weight to depending on the size shaft used. Custom strings ? are they better & or faster than factory or hold up longer or have better serving ? Yes to all of that. Its better to stay with a factory string at least 6 months to a year, then step up they do cost a few more samolians! Boo makes custom strings & usually has a thread on trading post here or look on any of his posts fer his string email info

Welcome fellow Michigander. You certainly are on the right forum for xbows. I just started last Oct after 30 years of vertical addiction. Like Maxman said, Boo's website is very helpful. But all of your questions are answered on this forum....you just have to be able to find them...

Welcome friend! I shoot GT Lazar II carbons and have them from 400 gr to 446 gr w/ 100 gr points. I could go up from that by changing to a 125 or 150 gr bhead.
One of the side benefits of an Excal is all the choices in arrow weight and string types.

Welcome Nick,

yes, yes, no, and ...what was the question again?

Boo strings are great. Aluminium vs. carbon is a personal choice, pros and cons for both. The hot-shots seem to prefer carbon. Crazyfarmer makes some awesome bolts. I still use the out-of-the-box Excal aluminiums with 125 gr mechanicals, and they all go right here +

Stay tuned for more suggestions.
