anyone feeding deer in the winter time if so what are u using ?
Re: feeding deer
Supposedly the Powassan coop has real good alfafa bails for $7 each...I bought some at L'Ami's last year and they were horrible...There is also a Menonite farmer selling his own and I think he is on Cutter lane or something like that.

Re: feeding deer
I use a feeder I made a few years back. Put in corn. 25 lbs. at a time. $11.00 a 75 lb. bag.
Deer eat there at night, coons as well. Turkeys, birds and Squirels during the day.
Looks like a busy traffic zone around it in the snow. I've now noticed more than a couple Grouse there to.

Re: feeding deer
We didn't have a very good mast crop down on our farm this year, so I've been keeping some feed out for the critters to help everything get by until spring. It's mainly just shelled corn I've been putting out, but every now and then I'll toss a bag or two of horse feed in there as well. I know there's a lot of stuff that is nutritionally better for the deer, but that stuff costs quite a bit more than I'm wanting to spend. The corn is running me $5 / 100 lbs so it isn't killing me, and the deer, squirrels, possums, coons, foxes, skunks, coyotes, and birds get a little something out of it.

I FEED WHOLE CORN IN MY FRONT YARD. I CAN SIT IN MY LIVING ROOM AND WATCH TV AND LOOK OUT THE WINDOW AND WATCH DEER 10 FEET FROM THE PORCH. I FEED THEM AS MUCH FOR MY OWN ENJOYMENT AS I DO FOR THEM.

I use corn in the feeder I made. I put in 100# Monday. I haven't checked how much the deer and other critters have eaten. Trying to get a figure how long it will last me.

Re: feeding deer
Molasses is 12% per 50 lb bag, after buying my latest sweet feed type. It has 50 % cracked corn in it. So i will now just buy that type of sweet feed & not buy the shelled corn! Or buy the Southern brand that has only 5% corn mixed in. trying to see which the deer like better.
