snow's piling up in southern Ohio tonight
We've missed most of the snowfall so far this winter - but that's changing now.
Not so much actual snow, probably 6 - 8" has fallen, but the wind is really drifting it.
Fed & watered the dogs at sunset, and I had to wade through 12"+ drifts.
Just looked out and where I walked to get to the dogs and it's all white & level again already.
Looks like tomorrow will require some serious shoveling.

Boo,
If you guy's there got 12" they would call in the army to clear it away
Out here in Woodstock we just take it in stride.

They really do call it a storm when its 3+inches.I think its funny because on the news they always say theres a winter storm warning and turns out to be a possible 3-5 inches Last time we got 8-10 inches and everyone was rushing to the stores getting suppliesBoo wrote:Is 3" considered a storm in Ohio?weezy wrote:Up here in northern Ohio we got it bad the last storm so its your turn now We have maby 2-3 inches here..

Yes.They were showing people on the news buying up a ton of salt, shovels, snowblowers, food, water, etc.,as if we were getting 10 feet of snow.

In the 20 years I've been living here, this is the most snow I've ever seen in this county ... it fell Friday night through Saturday afternoon ... about 2". Very rare.
As hard as it is for people who live in areas with harsher winters to believe, this much snow is more than enough to shut down schools, services and events. It causes lots of accidents and significant trouble.
And yes, people always flock to stores ahead of such an advancing "system" and clear the shelves of milk, eggs, and bread.
I don't know why they do that. Perhaps they like to make French Toast.

I like french toast. If I ate it everytime we had 3 - 5 inches of snow I'd weigh much more than I already do!

The big problem here is the road crews just don't have enough equipment & manpower to keep the streets clean, and people tend to panic if they think they're stranded at home for a day or two.
I took this pic of the intersection at one corner of my property this morning. I can remember back in the 50s when all us kids would get together and put a big steel barrel in the center of the intersection when we got a snow like this. We'd build a fire in the barrel to warm up at, and ride our sleds down the hills in the street. No chance of that happening now.

I just arrived at an inn next to the Kentucky Speedway. Drove through a bit of snow but not nearly as much as I normally get around my igloo.

You're within a couple hours of my home, Boo.Boo wrote:I just arrived at an inn next to the Kentucky Speedway. Drove through a bit of snow but not nearly as much as I normally get around my igloo.
It might not look like much to you, but for our road crews (and especially a lot of our drivers) that is serious road conditions!
I wouldn't be too concerned if I were the only driver on the road, but watch out for the inexperienced (and just plain stupid) drivers!!!!
