Hunting tradition runs deep in the Petersen clan .... That's Court's Grandfather on the left ... 91 years old and still gets out there !

The last of the snow melts away as we head into April ... The warm winter kept the deer in good shape .... a doe and fawn stayed on my property pretty well all winter this year ...

Starting to scope out misc Tom's in our area ...

Last week in the rain , I saw some Tom's cutting away hens and young birds already ...

A redtail hawk stops by my place almost every day now , checking out the squirels in the yard ...

And of course , I couldn't resist , confirming the condition of the back field , by wadeing the Jeep into the bean stubble slue ..

Ducks and geese paired up everywhere you look ...

Still the occational single around ...

As we do some spring scouting from farm to farm , I see a doe stoped for a look under one of the many new climber trees we carved last season ...

Randy and I got a quick look at this "sprinting jake" in the back field of one of our favorite spots ...

We bumped into this groggy ground hog on another farm .... he looked "cute and all " with some clover still in his mouth ...

But soon started the "teeth chatter" routine when I got in too close with the pocket camera !

Found time to pull down some old ladder stands for future relocate ... the truck works good to yank out 12 inch spikes , when you forget the pry bar !

Tonight I took a walk close to home , before supper , got some cool shots of the misc pond critters that were out in the late afternoon sun ..

As the evening wound down , I drove about 10 mins away from home , along a road that I haven't been on for awhile , then I spotted some turkeys , way out in a field ... I asked around , found the right landowner ... asked for permission to take pictures .
The woman that owns the farm thanked me for asking , and mentioned she had had problems with tresspassers in the past , shooting turkeys right up behind her barn

As I walked back to the farm , I cut through the back bush and got one quick frame of a racoon suning up in a tree ...

With the sun on a downward arc , I took a quick shot of the old barn on the property as I walked back to the house ...

I stopped and thanked her again for the opportunity to take pictures ...We talked for awhile , and she offerd me an opportunity to return for pictures and a future bow hunt ..... I'm looking forward to that , as it is a beautifull property !
Good luck to all that are out scouting in Ontario , and Best Wishes to others , who's spring turkey season has already started !
