Opening Day - for us -Thunder chickens in a thunder storm.

Post by bucont »

This was the first time out this season because work keeps getting in the way.
I dropped a cruising Tom at 20 yards after he came 100 yards to a combo of MeadowBrooke mouth and slate yelping and cutting.

I had a first time hunter in the blind with me this morning, this bird came up the wrong side for her to shoot. So I took him out with the 870 before he changed his mind. He was not a giant, but 20lbs makes a great bbq.

Within one hour from the first kill in the same spot, again combo calling brought 9 jakes in from over 200 yards and on a full run. Great to see the foot race, it was all we could do to stop from laughing and getting busted. This time the rookie got to shoot, took aim and she fired over the selected birds head. She knew it in all the excitement, “I did not get down on the barrel and let it fly.”

Great fun, seen a bunch of birds including 6 lone hens and four deer sighted (one good Buck for the fall) plus nature's light show. Best of all, quality time with the rookie. LOL it don’t get any better than that!
