re-string

Post by bear5 »

Folks,
I just bought a Vortex crossbow and removed the string since I will not be shooting it until Sept. Do i need to twist the string when I re-install it? If so, how may times do I twist it?
Thanks,
Bear

If you do not untwist it . Then you are okay .
But if you do . It takes about 4 twists CCW that way you are tightening against the serving .

Just leave the string on. It won't do the bow any harm if stored properly.

I agree with leaving it on the bow. It will stretch the string which is a good thing. A new string will stretch and you want to get that done before hunting season. If the string isn't properly broke-in, then it can stretch a good deal while in the stand fully cocked. Depending on the type of string, the stretch can throw your shot off. Best break in your new string. I like to have at least 100 shots on my string before hunting with it.

Even if you do not shoot the bow, leave the string on and keep watch on the brace height. Adjust as needed between now and then.

If you take it off . . . If your crossbow has dissipator
bars installed, then the pads must be removed before the crossbow is
unstrung to avoid damage.

Congrats on a purchasing a GREAT bow and welcome to the forum.

So when I restring the xbow I should put enough CCW twists using my right hand to get the string to line-up between thw two marks on the rail, correct?

This may be a dumb question. Should the sting fall a 1/8 towards the rear of the brace marks
(1\8 inch outside of the rear mark) or within the brace marks 1/8 below the rear mark. I've been keeping mine within the brace marks 1/8 below the rear mark.

Bill Troubridge (the founder of Excaliber), Kenny Barr (2 time world 3D winner) and myself (whatever) keep about a one inch brace height (1" from where the riser meets the rail). But it's personal choice.
