need target recommendation

Post by DaveC »

I need to buy a target for my new Exocet. I was interested in one of the big foam block style ones. I want one that will not mess up the fletching on my arrows. My local club only has a sight-in target at 20 yards and my arrow went in too deep. Can you guys recommend one for me? Please specify if its field point or broadhead. I would prefer to get it locally. Southeast archery, french creek outfitters, cabelas, and Black bear archery are near me.

For target tips I just picked up a target called the "Hurricane". My arrows from my Exocet penetrate about 6 inches. Cost was in the mid $ 30.00 range.

For broadheads I use "The Block". Can shoot multiple sides and arrows also penetrate about 6-8". Cost is about $ 100.00.

Morrells yellow jacket xbow target is super nice for field points, I use them with my vortex, stops the bolts way short of the fletching, easy bolt removal, cabelas has them on sale now- $49.99.

I think I'll get a target for field points and one for broadheads. The rinehart 18-1 seems well reviewed. Does the rinehart 18-1 roll around when hit? People seem to like the spyderweb targets for field points too. The Morrells yellow jacket xbow target looks good for the price but I would need a stand. The cheap one at cabelas doesn't seem to be good. What stand do you recommend for that?

I picked up a hurricane bag target and already ruined 2 arrows by putting them thru the bag with my compound,...i have an old bag target from walmart that stops the arrows better than the new one ...heard of guys using an un open bag of peat moss for broadheads ...

Another vote for the rineheart 18-1. I like mine so far. And for feild tips a burlap bag stuffed with old clothes workes really well, is easy to make, and is cheap

I vote for this option. I chewed up several of those high end retail bags, including the Block. I finally got an old sack and filled it with worn out Tee-Shirts. Works far better than anything else I've tried. Every once in a while I'll add more Tees and cover a few holes with duct tape.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.
