Post by Close Up »

just got back from back from a french river canoeing trip. starting the trip off we came a cross this guy in the water and making his way up onto the dock. we were told that it was water snake but we think it was a gray snake.

here is a few great reflection photos taken on our way down the french river.

A lot of the reflection photos when rotated will show faces, this one when we rotated it we thought resembled a totem-poll.

Great pics!!!! That's cool with the faces.

That's a northern water snake. Very nice colouration, probably went through a shed very recently. Although sometimes aggressive, They are basically harmless.

You are correct I didn't take any pics but the only way 500+ pics could be taken is to have someone in the back to paddle.

AWESOME PHOTOS!!!!!

I love, love, love the French River!

The French was my first canoe trip in '86 and it saved me. Seriously. After moving from the west I thought I'd shrivel up and die down here in southern Ontario, but after spending a week on the French/Georgian Bay/Key I found that with enough trips north I could come to love Ontario.

Harmless as far as poisonous, but aggressive can be an understatement if you pick one up.

The French river was a awesome trip going down the voyageurs route to the bay and then back up to Hartly bay. With the water levels being down about 5 to 6 feet, made for a few unexpected portages. A breathtaking trip in many ways.

Did you head out of Hartley Bay? I've been to the french the last few years during the fall to my cousins cottage, we go up for a week of fishing, duck hunting, hiking, pre moose hunt scouting, and cold beverage drinking general fun! I've thankfully never seen any snakes up there, but my cousin saw a massasauga rattler one time up there!
