did the green horn thing ,,

Post by strum »

well i hate to post this but since i was so excited about my exomax puchase and bragged about how awsome it is i guess ill have to go ahead and share my folly..
Bought it used yesterday ,,shot like a dream ..shot it today with a few freinds who all had crossbows ..got in a hurry and dry fired it ..
well ..now i need limbs,, :(
it broke part of the shoulder of the tip where the string goes..now every shot it slings the string..
sad part is its thurday and the season opens sat,,,
also i think the dissipator bars are bent a little ..they seem to have a slight curve in them now ..is that normal?..
a dont know if they were originaly staight..
calling excal in the morning hope they can help ..

Sorry about your problem. If I were you I would call Dan Miller 740 483 2030. He is the Excalibur Warranty man in US. If not under warranty he can get one to you quicker from Ohio than you can get from Canada.

Originally they are straight and get bent on a dry-fire. If you are new to crossbows it may be prudent to stick with the Excel string for a while until you are sure you won't dry-fire it again or at least not likely. Bummer but Danny is pretty quick to get you fixed up.

Ouch! Sorry about your bad luck but I'm glad to hear that you're getting a new one so quickly! When will the limbs arrive? Did you decide to get new dissipator bars too or will you just straighten the ones you have? My string slipped out of my hand when I was uncocking the bow by hand one of the first days I had my new bow last season, it was cold and my hands were a bit numb and well..... No damage though, luckily.

Take Care.

Dude! that was fast! Might as well get the common mistakes over and done with eh?! Excalibur is a great company to deal with when it comes to things such as this, and from what I hear so is Mr Miller @ horizontal archery. You will be up and running in no time.

Welcome to the dry-fire club. Your among good company, but the membership dues suck.

i have been shooting bows for years and do most of my own work also ..i have always preached ,,"never dry fire "
well the crossbow was a new deal for me..
I tried to drive itnto my head ..cock safety ..cock safey..
well i did that ,,but we had 3 guys shooting out of my rest sighting in their crossbows and i figured i would slip in a take a shot as they were adjusting cocking and the like ..
I had cocked mine and didnt want to put an arrow in it yet for safey so when the rest was open i just put the ole exomax in there ,,cross hairs lined up on the last guys arrow ..joking that i could hit it ..well ...so now i will drill it into my head ,,cock,,safety ..arrow,,,cock..safety ..arrow..
when you lay it in that rest you feel like you have a rifle and its easy to forget to double check for that arrow,,
The season is open sat so ..the good news is i have been shooting my Hoyt for 2 months now ..i will hunt..
