KIA Deer with many thanks to Excalibur

Post by strider23 »

I've taken many deer over the years with compound bow, rifle, shotgun, and handgun, but I've finally taken my first one this afternoon with an Excalibur Vortex, which I bought only a few weeks ago. (My wife still doesn't know about that little purchase, so lets keep that between me and all the members here....lol)

I got a Vortex, w/wyvern custom string, groundpounder top mount(one of his last ones), firebolt shafts w/G5 Striker 100gr broad heads. That shaft drilled right through her leaving 2 very large entry and exit wounds. Tracking was no problem, except for the 70yds of briar and thicket that she chose to run through to make my retrieving her pure hell.

Again, my hats off to Excalibur for building such a great crossbow, keep it simple and keep it great, job well done.
Andy

We could use some pointers about how to make that purchase and not having the Mrs. find out. Excalibur sales could double.

Congrats on the big doe! 8)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the congratulations. This one made me earn the venison this year. I thought I was going to have a freaking heart attack or something while dragging her (I'm sure a lot of us have been there before). I cooked 2 huge tenderloins from her on the grill tonight. My wife and 3yr old son loved them.

As to the "secret" purchase, I told my wife I was going to my local hunting shop to buy some carbon arrows to replace some aging aluminum ones for my vertical bow (that is the truth). Instead of walking out with arrows I left with a new Excalibur. I know, that's bad, but it did put meat on the table already.
