Big doe down in Illinois

Post by VTX4 »

I saw one deer in the distance opening morning. Went back to the same stand that evening. Around 6:45 a skipper stepped out of the woods about 35 yards in front of me. Soon the doe came out followed by another skipper. The doe angled in front of me and presented a perfect broadside opportunity at about 23 yards but she was walking. I voice bleated to stop her. When she stopped my Vortex sent and arrow tipped with a slick trick broadhead through both lungs. She ran into the timber. I thought I heard her go down but I still waited 20 minutes. By then it was almost dark. But I found blood easily and by flashlight was able to blood trail her in the timber for about 50 yards to where she lay. I called my wife and asked her to bring the 4 wheeler and trailer to the area. She helped me field dress and drag the doe to the 4 wheeler. (She has had a lot of experience helping me do that over the years.) The doe is now quartered and in our cooler. We will cut and package her Monday. It was a great way to open the season.

Congrats on your kill!

My Wife stopped eating venison after watching me skin and cut one up. She said that everytime she would take a bite, she'd see that deer hanging in the tree without the skin...

So consider yourself a lucky man that you have a Wife that will help you with the dirty work!
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4
