First Hunt with my Excalibur
I bought my Excalibur in May and have been practicing in the back yard. I have gotten very comfotable stringing/unstringing, cocking and uncocking, shooting at different distances etc. over the last couple of months. I bought a rangefinder and played around with that from up in my stands at the hunting club. I also set up a stand in the yard for my son to shoot his compound bow from for practice. I made use of that to get a feel for shooting the bow from a stand.
All this paid off big time. I harvested a 9 pt non typical on my first trip to the woods on Oct 3rd. The rangefinder said 47 yds. The angle compensator said shoot 45 yds. I put the 40 yard diamond slightly above the brisket and pulled the trigger. The bolt went thru 1 lung, the heart and 30 yds down range! The deer ran 30 yards and expired.
I returned from a business trip 12 days later and returned to the woods with my Vortex the next morning. I have been using Wildlife Reasearch Scrape Dripper bottles at all my stands. Soon as the sun started coming up I was surrounded by does and yearlings. Within 5 minutes a nice 8 pt showed up and walked staight to my mock scrape. 31 yd shot and he ran 40 yds and took a dirt nap. He is going on the wall!
This is the best 2 weeks of hunting in my 35 years of chasing whitetail. I dont miss the muzzle flash or the big bang. I was able to watch and hear exactly where the deer ran to. Overall, crossbow hunting is an amazing experience for a former rifle hunter. I shot a recurve bow deer hunting in high school and shot a few does but never got a buck. This more then makes up for that. My 16 year old son thinks it is great, but he is sticking with his Diamond compound bow for now. I bet by the end of the season he will be begging to use the dreaded Excalibur!http://s1108.photobucket.com/albums/h40 ... C_1189.jpg[/img]

Re: First Hunt with my Excalibur
I posted the Photobucket address. I don't know how to post the picture directly on the Posting? I used the Easton 20 Bolts with the 150 Grain Boltcutter broadheads. I also upgraded my string to the Flemish string. I was amazed that a different string gave me that much more bolt height on the target at 30 yards. I had to move my scope setting 3 clicks. I also forgot to mention that I used the same bolt on both deer!sumner4991 wrote:Man . . .I should have bought a Vortex.

Re: First Hunt with my Excalibur
I am not sure where your from but I got a mount done last year from a retired fella in Brampton Ontario for $375.00. It was a quick turn around time, I think it was like 4 months. If intrested let me know and i will try and find his number. Here is a pic of my mount he did.RussJohnson wrote: He is going on the wall!

Congrats Russ. That 8-pt is a beauty. The 9pt has some serious character. Looks like he may have had a run in with a tree while in velvet.
