Exomax Downs a 7 Point

Post by PABOWDUDE60 »

I got in the stand at 6 am this morning. Just waitng for daylight. I'm checking all around me as its getting light enough to shoot. Check watch at 6:50 , bow is still on hanger. Look to my left nothing, Scan to my right. Damn how did he get there!! He didn't make a sound on those wet leafs. I have a giant at 19 yds with my crossbow still hanging on the hook. I slowly get it as he walks by. By the time I get on him I only have a hind quarter shot . So I let him go and spin around in my stand hoping for a shot on the other side of the tree. He disappears into the thicket behind me.
I'm downing myself for not being ready.I call my son in law at 8:10 and tell him about it. At 8:15 I do a couple of light grunts. I look up the old logging road to my right and see a deer coming. I grab my bow to get ready in case it's a shooter. As he's coming in I can see he's at least a 6 point. He stops right where the other buck crossed the logging road. As he turns broadside I drill him through the right shoulder. He takes off back up the logging road and stops. I watch him for about 10 seconds and hear him crash as I see his white belly appear. It's really nice when you don't have to trail em. Although it looked like someone spilled a paint can as I walk up to him.

Nice buck you got there! Congrats on a fine job. Hopefully your next one will be the giant!
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4

Congrats on the buck! How big was the one that got past you? How far did it go after the hit . . .I'm guessing less than 20 yards? 8)

The big one was at least 20" spread. He went about 40 yds after the shot.
