Small 8 pointer down(updated with PICS)

Post by agingcrossbower »

This is all getting very rare for me so bare with me.\
We have been getting warm and east winds for almost a week which finally switched to the wsw at noon. So I got my camo on and headed into the woods. To get there I have to drive about a mile into a swamp to a friends cabin. On the way in I saw 2 does and one spike. The deer were on the move. I got to my stand on foot where I have 2 major trails to watch. One is a 10 yd shot and the other is about 30. I on looking down a old 4wheeler trail so its shoot now or forget it. At 4:00 pm I heard the unmistakable sound of a sloppy buck walking behind me. I knew he would take one of the two trails but was'nt sure which one. The buck stepped out on the 30yd trail and I bawd like a sheep and he froze. Gave me just enough time to shoot. High a little high and got a spine shot. He went right over but started crawling away. So, I got down and recock went over and shot him a little to low. I had to go back and find the first arrow, cleaned it off and shot him good. Did'nt think the old fart still had it in him. The rack is a small 8 so the rack will make for great rattlers come next season. Just sold my vortex but got one more buck with it before sending it away. :DImageImage

Congrats Mike! Look forward to seeing the pic.

Just make sure you don't use up all the luck in that Vortex before you ship it! :D
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4

Good going Aging. I've only made one spine shot and had to get down and finish him like you did. It was ugly but I must say it was the easiest retrieval of any deer I've taken. Gary

Yes, a spine shot does beat tracking and draging for sure. :D
