Double Down - with pictures!
Another successful Sunday morning....
I relocated a stand last weekend during the gun season, as I felt the deer in my area had pegged my regular spots. My Number 1 stand overlooks a meadow, and I was seeing lots of deer, just none within shooting range. I was seeing them from this stand slinking along the back side of the property, following the creek (about 100 yards away). I decided to put up a portable stand in that area, overlooking a heavily used trail that would give me about a 30 yard shot.
I sat it last evening, and ended up seeing three bucks and a doe out in the meadow, heading towards my Number 1 stand! Go figure....I was cursing myself for not sitting my regular stand, but I guess you can't be at both places at the same time. I was seeing deer, but they seem to always pass in front of the stand I WASN'T sitting in....until this morning.
I sat the stand this morning, with the hopes I'd have a little luck in the new area....I saw three does about 1/2 hour after day break running full tilt back and forth across the meadow...not sure what they were doing...perhaps just getting some fall exercise! I just watched them, hoping they'd slow down and come to my trail, but it wasn't to be.
Then at about 8AM I heard a crack to my right, and looked down to see a little buck sneaking towards me through the brush. It's a thick area, and he was 20 yards away before I could even see him....Since my stand was only 12 feet up, and he was coming towards me, I was nervous he'd see me. It happened quick, and I gave him a "bahh" to stop him at about 10 yards and zipped a GTII with a 100 grain Slick Trick and Lumenok through him. He took off, and I settled in to relive the shot, knowing it was a solid hit, and how I hadn't anticipated deer coming from that direction. Always the way! I reloaded while up the stand, and caught movement to me left....two does coming! Then I had the decision, do I fill my doe tag too?!? I figured it wasn't much more work to get two deer out as it was to get one out.....and as she came down the trail I DID expect them to come, I ranged the first doe - 28 yards - and then nailed the second with a perfect double lung shot.
Both deer (doe and buck) ran the same direction after being shot, and fell within 50 yards of each other!
A great morning, and I think my new stand location might prove successful for some time to come. It pays to move stands throughout the season....we need to keep these deer on their toes!
Good season to all...I've been seeing many nice deer being shot. We still have one more month of season, so now it's time to help some buddies fill their tags too.

Congrats! It's best to get them when they are there. I let a few pass last week and now I wish I'd taken a couple of them.
