6 year old son got first deer today

Post by crazyfarmer »

I took my little boy out today in the ground blind since buck movement is slim to none. Hunted a clover field of ours which I had seen 25 deer in 2 days ago. I went in around 1pm and put the blind up where the majority of the deer had entered the field. I picked him up from school and we were in the blind around 3:30pm. Since it was so cold(30) I borrowed my dads buddy heater which worked great! My son even fell asleep for 20 mins. He's shooting a .410 youth H&R with a red dot scope. Brenneke slugs which group great form that gun. Keep in mind he had missed a decent 8pt on youth day back in Sept so this was his redemption hunt. He didnt see any movement untill 5pm. Then a good size doe walked out 40 yards away. Border line within range but I want something closer for him. He was dead set on shooting that deer. Had to make him wait but at the same time I was getting ready for him to shoot just in case nothing else showed. I use the primos trigger stick rest for him since he really cant hold the gun steady on his own. I had that leaning on the tent when I heard running right beside the blind. Out pops a doe(which later I found was a button buck) at 10 yards. I didnt have time to get the rest in place so I actaully held the end of the gun for him. He put his eye down on the scope while sitting on my knee. I said shoot when you have the dot on it. Boom... thump... deer down. Then he was all smiles and jumping and high fiving began to take place. His first deer was down!!! 6 years old and one on the ground. I didnt get my first untill I was probably 9ish. His first words were send a picture to everyone HAHAHHAH. They grow up fast. Hopefully he doesnt get the antler addiction like me later on.

not the best pictures, but a lifetime of memories here...

CF;

GREAT story and a fine deer for your son; it's better than killing one yourself; what a life time of memories you got there; CONGRATS to the both of you;

Oh BTW, with you teaching him, he will probably not only get the "bone disease" but will surpass you in the process..... :shock: ........ :lol:

CONGRATs to the "little" CF!!!! Nothing like being with a kid when he/she gets their first deer. I get more pleasure having a kid take a deer now than shooting the deer myself. The bond of taking your son hunting will last forever CF, I'm still trying to get my son on his first deer this year and he is 28.

Congrats!! That's a fine looking Doe for a first deer!

I'm sure she was honored to sacrifice hereself to be the first one for the little man :shock: :D

I bet he'll keep enjoying her and the memories every time ya'll sit down to the table over Venison steak!
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4

I can say that I know how you feel CF. You will now have a permanent partner in your passenger seat from here on out :wink: . I know that you wouldn't have it any other way. Please tell him congratulations from Tyler and I.
God Bless !!!!!!!!!
