Relayer Y25 what do you use yours for?

Post by Mechanical Advantage »

There still seems to be new Relayer Y25s around for about $800. I really like the feel of the wood stock. The straight drop of the comb almost makes it feel like a thumbhole stock. Kind of the best of both worlds. Am I crazy to consider this bow as my workhorse? What does everyone use theirs for- collection, target, hunting? And why after 3 years is it not too difficult to get one if they only made 1000?

They are priced as a collectable. And they are! I dont know how many are left but I bet the available numbers are getting smaller. I know some guys hang theirs up on a shelf, but I cant afford to do that. I hunt and target practise with my Y25. There is something about that wooden stock that makes this bow shoot like a dream. Its comfy, well balanced. Buy one! if the thought of hunting with that stock sounds uncomfortable to you then do what I did and keep an eye out for a used plastic stock to swap when hunting season comes around.

Well considering the price of a custom wood stock the Y25 is a bargain. No I dont mind using it. I like worn hardwood floors, beat up leather jackets, and used guns. Lots of storys behind them.

That's the reason I use my old wolverine. Just like the feel of it. It has a wood stock. It is setup as a new bow now. All black except the stock is original color for now. But would like to find a pair of original limbs in excellent shape for it for someday for when it gets retired.

I love the "Vintage" excals like the wolverine that have the wooden stocks. One day I would love to get the original Relayer.

I totally agree with scott,I have a y25 stock on a vixen rail due to a back injury and it shoots like a differant bow, way smoother and basically no shock/vibration at all. As mentioned in another thread a big advantage is also noise, the synthetic stocks are very noisy, one little brush against anything during a close encounter and you are done. I would definitely make the investment, because the fifty year commemorative bow is a long ways off.

I don't have a Y25, but, if I did it would be getting used. I don't own anything I wouldn't feel comfortable using. I don't need the stress.

Yes, my Exomax with the Agingcrossbower custom stock is the bow I take into the woods. The wood is actually easy to maintain. I've seen wood stocks that have been used for several years and still look new. Just a matter of a lite sanding and adding a layer of varnish.

I have shot the Y25 and it does shoot smooth.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.

My y25 # 350 is still in its 3 boxes along with the certificate, hat, and other stuff.
The only time it was out of the boxes was to make sure everything was all
there. Then put back in the boxes and sealed to keep out bugs and moisture.
My Exocet 200 is my go to bow, when I use my xbow. It is too bad that the
Crankeroo will not fit the y25 without modification;as those of us that are
aging could sometimes use a little extra help. I have fired other y25's and find them quite pleasant to shoot. I have no problem shooting
right handed stuff lefthanded---and have been doing it for years.

Thanks for the responses. I did not know the y25 came with a certificate. I will have to make sure it comes with one if I get one. I just really love the feel of that stock!

I just purchased a Y25 Relayer stock and plan to build it into a USEABLE bow. I was thinking of a Vixen II or Phoenix rail. Anyone have other ideas? Thanks!
