I haven"t commented yet, but have been following the story. This is definately a labour of love, unless Boo is holding you hostage with some sorted blackmail.
The stock is looking awesome.
Oh yeah, the shipping address has been changed, not sure if you were made aware.

Re: Boo's stock
Lots of sanding and final shaping being done but the end is in sight. I had a hard time getting all the scratches out and ended up buying the jewels glasses which is the cats meow for picking out the slightest imperfections. There is nothing worse than having to look at a mark on a piece of work AFTER you have stained it. The only way to get it out is to sand out the entire stock again down to the bare wood. And, that is not fun.
Thanks everyone for your comments and kind words. I hope you can tell all the work that goes into one stock plus all the tools neccessary to make one. You truly have to love what your doing. I know I do.

That is one awesome stock.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.

She is looking mighty fine now!!
However, one thing about sanding I don't like, is SANDING!
I am a Certified woodworker, Architectural Millwork, almost 30 yrs.
Never did like the sanding, loved everything else.
Beautiful job. Pride will show just as much as wood grain!

Re: Boo's stock
I'm curious why you are going to stain it? Does Boo want it dark? Won't the stain hide some of the color or figure? What kind of stain and what brand of finish are you planning on using? Sorry for all the questions but I won't know unless I ask. Gary

Re: Boo's stock
Sorry for the confusion Gary. I meant in general the work shows its scratches after you stain. On this stock I will be using something new. I like Tru-oil but not the sheen it has. Even with a wax on it still to shiny for me so I am going to try something that a gunstock maker recommended. Never know unless you try. Here it is.GaryM wrote:I'm curious why you are going to stain it? Does Boo want it dark? Won't the stain hide some of the color or figure? It will need to be "PROTECTED LIKE ARMOR" . . .I've seen Boo let about anyone grab his bows and shoot away . . .or attempt to shoot.
What's in those cans? Looks like a good choice.

Re: Boo's stock
good choice on sealer aging....B.L.O. works good also, you can touch up without stripping whole stock down and refinishing it .........bob

Re: Boo's stock
Lite and stream line, best of both worlds, thats going to be one power-ful stock, that sealer must have a good bit of linseed oil? Can't wait for finish.
