Fletching removal tool

Post by j.krug »

I've been looking for a tool to strip the fletching off my arrows for a little while now.
The inexspensive ones that I found appeared to be cheaply made so I passed on them.
I found one that was of good quality but was way over priced in my opinion.
I found this at Canadian Tire and it worked like a charm to remove old fletching and scrape off old glue also.

All the spare blades store in the handle of the knife.
When all the bade sections are used you just slide the thumb thingy back all the way and it loads a new blade.
Push it forward and you're ready to go again.

The knife was $15 and a pack of spare blades was $10.
So for $25 plus tax I should be able to remove all my old fletching for the rest of my life!

Thats pretty slick
Looks like it would work very well

25 bucks sounds a bit steep though

The tool itself was $15 with a couple spare blades included.
I bought a pack of spare blades that took the price up a little.
I didn't think $25 was too bad because a similar single blade tool that I was looking at in archery shops was $40 plus tax.
I probably won't ever need the spare blades but I'm a gadget junky and couldn't resist!! :)

this looks like it would work...

somewhere I saw just the box cutter blade with radius ground in it... you can buy just the blades and use your own box cutter...

I like the Zip strip by Norway industries. It is expensive but so is most archery equipment. But I think it will last me
life time. Is there not a danger that the box cutter blades will shear off too much carbon?

I suppose there is always a chance of scraping of to much and gouging the arrow is one was to scrape to hard or hols it at the wrong angle. I did a dozen Firebolts and didn't have any issues.

If you just take a decient knife,,,like a fairly sharp pocket knife, and remove the vane,,then take a rag wet with acetone,,3-5 minutes of rubbing and all glue and rest of vane that was attached to glue is gone,,take another clean rag with acetone and wipe the shaft down,,and totally clean,,your ready to fletch..and no loss of carbon or the arrow grooved here or there..I even wipe the vane down on my bitzenberger clamp with clean rag dipped in acetone before applying glue and you have a vane,,that you will never rip off no matter what. the glue I use is Fletchtight premium in the silver grey tube,,drys enough in 3 minutes to put the next vane on. I have fletched a few thousand dozen arrows in my lifetime this way and never had any complaints.

Same here. I have a Zip Strip and I don't use it.

I looked at the Zip Strip and it's nice but not worth $40 + tax to me.
