What am I missing?

Post by BizROWorld »

Going next weekend to get the following to get started with my 1st crossbow....what am I missing? How many broadheads/bolts/field points should I buy to start?

Exaclibur Vortex with LumiZone Scope, quiver, cocking aid rope > $779

Excalibur Crossbow Stringer > $25

Excalibur Flemish Dyna Flight String #1989 > $25

Excalibur Crossbow Stand > $30

Excalibur XBow Deluxe Case > $80

Crossbow Broadhead Target > The Block > $110

Excalibur Arrow Puller > $21 ? do I really need this ?

Total = $1,070

18 Broadheads > 150 grain Excalibur Boltcutter > $33 per 3. ($11 each) x 6 = $198

18 Bolts > Excalibur Crossbow Bolts, Series 22 Carbon > $45 per 6. ($7.50 each) x 3 = $135

24 Field Points > Excalibur Field Points 150 grain > $8 per 12. x 2 = $16

Total = $349

GRAND TOTAL = $1,419 + TAX.

Looks like you have everything covered. If it was me I would purchase 6-12 arrows and points. Also, I have never needed the puller on my block target, if the arrows stick out the back I just tap them with a piece of 2x4.
If you hunt this fall you may want a sling.

What would you need 18 broadheads, arrows and field points for for? Do without stand, just hang it on wall. I have a case and never use it. In my truck I just throw a blanket over it that wife keeps in the truck. Arrow puller is handy but not sure which kind is best. (wink, wink) Forget the string and run the one that comes with the bow, it is much more forgiving if and when you forget to load an arrow. Stuff cloths in a box tightly and shoot that. Can do it a ton cheaper than you have listed. Bolts buy 6 or 12, dozen practise points and 1 pack of 3 broadheads.
Just an idea and is only my opinion for how little it is worth.

yes wax and sling are a must as others have stated above me.

Ya, You could do fine with half that stuff, and still get it done! :wink:
Do not buy a "T-Puller" that screws into the rear inserts for pulling arrows
out of targets. :twisted: Use a piece of rubber in your hand and pull close to target as possible.
Or get the Plier's type offered from the Bow Shop or Danny miller. Box of rags for field point target works
perfect as Wheelie stated. Three broadheads is all you need to hunt a season with. :wink:

Only Boo buy's 18 broadheads at a time just to test. Most can't afford to do that! Heck I hear he is in the bidding for the Toronto Maple Leafs as a sole owner! If he hurries we should all be able to get into the hunting show on Wednesday for free. :lol: :lol: :lol:

First of all, thanks to wheelie and the others for their thoughts.

The only thing I intend to add is a cheek piece to help me line up to the scope consistently.

I bought a lite stuff pkg. Added 6 bolts, 3 broadheads, extra target points and wax. I have a sling that I use with my 'limbless' bows. I did get the Excal hardcase, because it's on for $30 (instead of $180) and my wife suggested it. (Yeah, I take my wife to the gun store, because she will encourage me to not skimp out ... sometimes :) )

I plan to shoot the stock string this year, and see how it goes. I'll add a second string of some description after that, and make or buy a tool to aid in changing strings.

That's it.

Sounds like a great list of goodies there.
As most have said a dozen arrows & practice points will be fine along with a set of 3 broadheads for hunting.
I would go with the new S5 string stopper also.

Have fun with all your new stuff when you get it!

thanks for the help. why onyl 3 broadheads? Shouldn't I pratice with broadheads (at least a few shots) to make sure I am hitting where I want? Also, if I plan on hunting NJ, PA, and NY this Fall Season, wouldnt I need more than 3 Bheads?

They're re-usable, sharpenable, and if necessary, you can replace the blades.
