I've shot 50 more today, these are my readings on the speed end, I'm very happy with this string thus far :D

350 grs | 485 grs

353.4 fps | 318.6 fps
349.5 | 316.9
351.5 | 319.5
353.9 | 317.9
352.2 | 316.9
352.3 | 318.5
349.2 | 319.7
349.6 | 320.8
353.1 | 320.2
349.8 | 320.6

I waxed after each 25shots, string looks new to me, on the 485gr shaft the last 3 shots were taken late after-noon when it was the warmest part of the day

I just finished another 50 shots. I'm sitting at 225 now. Didn't have to adjust my brace height today at all. Not much wear difference between now and 150 shots . . .here it is . . .

Image

Here's how I shoot when testing . . .makes for less trips to the target.

Image

I have a bucket of target arrows. There are odd weights. Some arrows are in there because they do not fly straight. Some I have not bothered to replace vanes. What I usually do is shoot a line at the bottom of the target. I'm shooting from 27 yards. I then start aiming at the arrows that are in the target using the 30 yard chevron. I shoot the most unaccurate arrows first, like the ones missing vanes. Toward the last of the shooting, it can get tricky putting arrows between arrows. My target needs some touch up, the center and the upper half isn't holding arrows very well, so I was shooting just the lower half today.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.
Perception trumps intention.

Sumner, looking at your top photo, it looks like your bowstring is riding just above the rail, not contacting it? I was told that can be dangerous, and can lead to dry fires?

Funny . . .I was thinking the same thing after I posted the picture . . .looks above the rail. But, it is not. Must be the angle of the picture or something. Definitely on the rail.

I went back and looked at the orginal photo, then blew up the serving. It's an illusion . . .here is the enlarged photo section of the serving.

When you guys hit the 300 mark please continue shooting at your leisure until the serving is toast but the string is not damaged. Record your impressions and post a picture of the string material under the serving. I want to see how Astroflight takes the beating that your bows are dishing out. You can send the string back to me for reserving or do it yourself.

Why is it that the arrow speed goes up a bit when the weather is warmer?

don asked me to put my test info in this thread so here it is....

started shooting today with 50 shots done....went to put the new string on and it sure feels slippery compaired to the excal FFF and don's older string....to start with i did 5 shots through the chrony with each string with brace heigth set one string under the high/long brace mark with 550 gr arrows....

excal FFF 28 strand i think....
284.4
283.8
284. 1
283.9
284.0

boo 40 strand....
280.6
280.0
279.8
280.7
280.1

don's new string 28 strands....
279.8
280.1
280.3
279.6
280.4

i shot the new string 30 times before i had to add two twists to get the string off the STS pads and it stayed there till 50 shots were done....noise with this string is hard to tell shooting indoors after shoting the other two, bad echo in the small room i used....i'll see what my camcorder will pick up outside as in hunting from 20 to 50 yds....

don's new string at 50 shots....
278.6
279.1
279.2
279.6
279.3

the last 20 shots were with a few twists added after shot 30....i'll try to post up tommorrow with more shots ........bob

....

I can't explain it, on my shots that day it was 45 to 50 temp before noon. the last shots the temp was close to 70 which was around 4:30, next testing will be warm temps so we will see, could have something to do with hot-wax

Went and shot 51 to 100 shots on the new string and here it is at shot 100 before wax….

Image

After wax looks good as it did 1st three times it was waxed….

Image

sorry i forgot wax picture at shot 75  but it looked good  ....

Speeds for the 100 shot chrony readings were as follows….

281.3
280.7
280.9
281.0
280.6

went on to the next set of 50 shots and ending with shot 120 I had serving failure, but the string strands are fine with no cuts in them….

Image

Not sure what happened, but I’m going to look at my claws and see if there are any burrs on it….shouldn’t be as don did them up when I sent my trigger to him, I think he did anyway….sorry my testing with this new string is at a stand still as of now….don let me know what ya want to do from here………..bob

I'm almost at 200 and the serving has not changed much since 100. I wonder what caused that Bob?
