3D shoot in Elmira May 1st

Post by TPM »

It's that time of year again! The 3D season is upon us. Elmira Rod and Gun is hosting a shoot May 1st starting at 10:00am. Remember to be there early as you have to be registered and ready to start the course by 10:00. So far I'm the only member of "Team Dryfire" that will be there. VixChix will be out that morning with a couple of other forum members trying to slay a turkey. :D
Hope to see some other forum members there!

I will be there with Madeline she will probably have to use a shooting stick as the bow is still too heavy for her

So what's the deal here?
Can anybody show up and shoot, presumably for a nominal fee?
Any restrictions on bows?

Sounds like fun, and it would be nice to meet some of you.

Everyone is welcome! Elmira is very crossbow friendly.

If you've never shot 3D before it's kind of like "redneck golf" - you form a team with who ever you like and go through the course together.

Some people are pretty serious about it, but I'd say that most are just out for a good time with like-minded people and a teeny bit of friendly competition. I've never been to a shoot where I haven't laughed enough to seriously throw off my shooting!

Sounds like my cup of meat!!

Guess I'm setting the alarm as if I was going out for turkey. Nearly a three-hour drive!

Tim you know my story on this shoot . I`m terrified of your shooting ability .
I know people have been terrified of my shooting but it had nothing to do with my ability.
arrons getting pretty good and the grandson is about bens age they may make us all look bad .
Glad to hear that Arron's still into it! Enjoyed shooting with him at the Port Colborne shoot two years ago. I'll have Ben along but I don't think he'll be shooting.

John, it's about another 1/2 hour drive past where we had the meet-and-greet a couple of months ago. Hope you guys can make it!

I think it's $20 a person and $30 per family. This shoot has no restrictions. It's divided into different classes so you just register under your class. Typically we'll have anywhere from 5-15 crossbow shooters at this shoot. I think you'll enjoy meeting other forum members. Looks like it's a good bunch coming. :D Most of us are just there for the fun and friendly competition.

TPM: Thanks for the additional info. I'm definitely planning to go.

I was gonna PM you, but I figgered if I'm wondering, another tyro might be too:

How many arrows to bring?
I'm assuming field points, yeah?
What to bring besides a crossbow and some pointed sticks?
What's the terrain like?

This may sound dumb, but I don't mind. I'm new at this, and I'm just trying to be prepared in advance.
It's my Taipei personality :)

Chris the normal shoot consists of 20 targets in the morning then a lunch break . Then do another 20 targets in the afternoon .
For the most part Elmira is pretty flat .There is a hill to go up on the trail . But if you are mobility challenged then all you have to do is stay on the trail and the others in your party will gladly pull your arrows for you .
The number of arrows needed is a loaded question . :) If you shoot like a certain person she was able to go through a few arrows trying to get the firewood to cook the foam animals .
If you are a reasonable shot then 4-6 arrows armed with fieldtips will suffice .
Depending on how warm it is . Maybe bring bug dope and some water/gatorade .
I would like to shoot this but will be coming back from turkey hunting that day .
