First Re-Refletch Part 3 "The New Job" Pics Added
After 6 years of bow hunting I figured its time to customize and make my own arrows. Here is my first attempt at a refletch and I am very happy with the result. Thanks to the many forum members who posted valuable advice. I highly recommedn this. Once you are prepared and have solid equipment it is not at all difficult. If they shoot as good as they look i will be very happy.
Here are some of the details:
Arrows Easton Carbon Powerbolts
Bolt cutter BH
2" Blazer Vanes
Lumenok
110 gn brass inserts
Total weight averages 460gn
Equipment used
Fletch Stripping Tool
Arizona EZ Fletch Aluminum Right 3 degrees helix
Bohning Fletch Tight Glue
Thats all I can think of

Nice! Congads they look good, I am sure they will shoot good also. I just go solid colors now. Get 100 solid colors for the price of 36 of the tiger strips.

Re: First Refletch
Thanks one shot. I originally put an order in with George at the Bow Shop in Waterloo. i spoke to him on the phone he told me to email it, I did he never got back to me then I called him again and he said he was working on it and I never heard back from him. Really disappointed with the service. So I got a grain scale at a pawn shop, the rest of the stuff from Bass Pro Shop. But the bow guy there did not know about which fletching tool to use. I researched it here and talked to some forum members (boo) for advice and got everything I need from Bass Pro.one shot scott wrote:Nicely Done! Where do you go for your supplies Galgo?
I still want to order blank shafts and some inserts from the Bow shop because as far as I know its the only place near Toronto to get em but i am hesitant because of the poor service.
Re: First Refletch
I have nothing but good things to say about them, but then again I have never used mail order from them.Galgo wrote:I still want to order blank shafts and some inserts from the Bow shop because as far as I know its the only place near Toronto to get em but i am hesitant because of the poor service.

Re: First Refletch
I'll let you know when I shoot them. Itching to get out but by all accounts the set up is solid so they should be pretty good. I have used the bow shop a couple other times with no problems but this time no luck.Island Hunter wrote:How do those 2" blazers work with bolt cutters.

Re: First Refletch
The arrows look great! There is a whole lot of satisfaction shooting arrows that you made with your own hands, regardless of what they look like.
As far as the Bow Shop, it is hit and miss. I was in there one day listening to a couple of the young employees cut up a customer (behind his back) because his order was small, I left disgusted. But, I have had one great experience that kept me from turning my back on them completely. If the bosses are around it is a VERY different shop than when it is left to the young ones.

If you are not willing to learn, nobody can help you, if you are willing, nobody can stop you.

Re: First Refletch
I don't think you are going to save allot of money doing it yourself but knowing you can refletch a dozen arrows in an hour or build form new in half that time combined with the consistency you should get and a little pride is why i did it but here are the costs I incurred:denisdendenis wrote:it look great ...does it cost alot of $$$$$ for equipments and all
Fletch remover $34 (Now this one I debated becasue some people have suggested everything from a butter knife to a box cutter. I couldn't see myself doing a good job with a butter knife, hell i can't even butter my toast that well, so I decide to spend the $$ and the tool worked great. It would have been much harder and I would not have gotten as good a result otherwise.
Arizona EA Fletch $64 Easy tool to use right from the start
Vanes $9.99 for 36 plane
$17.99 for 36 striped
Glue $9
Veyr light sand paper, adhesive remover $10
Grain scale $20 ( i consider this important but you don't have to weigh the stuff I was just curious)
All of this stuff can be bought cheaper than I got it but I wanted to more or less one stop shop.
Next on my list will be blank shafts and inserts so i can make some more from scratch, then an arrow spinner
