50 Yard Group

Post by Aero320 »

Image
Finally got a day where the wind was not howling and sighted in the Exocet 200. The photo is from 50 yards using a rest. Arrows are 2117's with the standard Easton inserts that came with the arrows used as nocks. Brass inserts from GT (Laser II) were used in the other end of the arrow. 2" Blazers were use with a right helical twist (fletched with Arizona EZ-Fletch Bolt). 100 grain field tips, sighted-in dead on at 20 yards first. Then shot at 40 yards to determine speed setting. Finally, shot at 50 yards to fine tune. There was a slight breeze. I don't recall shooting a better group with my Matthews at that distance. Bushnell rangefinder was used to determine distances.

Impressive
But please follow Wes's advice use all those dots on your target cause sooner than later you will put one right up the back of another and poof one or possibly two arrows for the metal heap :D

The accuracy is in the bow, not the shooter. When shooting at 20 yards with a rest, it was hitting the center of the smallest circle, not just the circle. The Excals are unbelievable.

I figured at 50 yards, the arrows would vary a lot more. Any of those arrows would have hit the kill zone in a deer. Would not be afraid to make the shot if I was sure of the distance and had a good rest. Would not shoot at a monster at that range though.

Still considering adding some weight? :)

Excals certainly build the confidence.. Just remember, a 50 yard stationary target(under ideal conditions) is not the same as tossing an arrow at a game animal.

Monster or not, shouldn't be the reason for deciding it is "OK" to let one fly.

The bows are accurate, granted. But the shooter counts for more than a little.

Just sayin.

Great grouping for 50!!!!!

I haven't shot fixed blades for a decade but I think I have some Muzzy 100s that were used for shooting through the net on my ground blind. May have some Thunderhead 100s from the old days. Will see how they group at 50 yards.
