opening morning bird down

Post by catcher »

shot this 2 year old 18.9 pound bird this morning at 7: 30 he had a 9 inch beard and 3/4 spurrs. It was great to have my son along with me. We ended up setting up about 200 yards from him with out knowing he was there untill he gobbled at first light. I said to my son I guess we picked a good spot this morning. I Gave him a couple of tree calls and then a fly down call and he loved every minute of it. Then his girlfriends showed up and it became a challenge to have them come over. But I knew he would follow them. So from then on I pretty much gave content hen calls and purrs and very soft yelping and scratching the leaves and they slowly made ther way over to our set up. He goobled at about 50 yards and that got our attention and then my son said to me " I can see him dad he is all fanned out and spining around" By then I could hear him spitting and drumming and than I saw the white head enter the woods from the field. I let him get to about 30 yards and then the # 6's were on the way. All in all it was a great morning to be with my son and to be in the woods.

Great job Gerry! Nice looking Tom!

When are you going to give the boy the gun? He looks ready and willing.
