Bolts or Arrows?

Post by novacam »

Please help me clarify as I've heard both terms used; am I shooting bolts or arrows? What is the difference between the two?

Thanks

I, by no means, am trying to stir people up and I don't think I was a member the first time it was posted. I don't want to sound foolish calling them one or the other but by the sounds of it I can call them whatever I want, so I guess that's what I will do!!

I've been in a few pissing matches with the Mississippi anti's and they seem to think a crossbow is a gun and it doesn't shoot arrows, it shoots bolts.

With that in mind . . .call them what you wish . . .

Don . . .are you saying they look strikingly different, yet are the same thing? 8)

To get specific . . .a bolt does not have vanes/feathers and is much shorter than an arrow. A crossbow can shoot them, but, it's not what we use. We actually use short arrows in our crossbows . . .at least I don't know anyone that is shooting bolts.

Hope this helps.

Don . . .I thought you had a picture of a bolt?

I call them bolts because I want to. Plus I like the word "bolt" over "arrow". I think it sounds cooler. Cupid shoots 'arrows" but Thor, the Norse god of Thunder and son of Odin, played with "bolts". Bolts are cooler. Oh yeah, and popcorn's cool too :D

I call them sticks, some people make a big deal about this, have the retailer's change what they call them instead of the us feuding over what we think they should be called

I can understand the manufacturers calling them bolts, it simplifies things. When someone asks for a dozen bolts there is very little confusion as what the customer is looking to buy and for what. But even Excalibur refers to them as arrows, even when their arrow supplier calls them bolts. Maybe Wes is right, its safer to call them sticks
This just proves that both terms are commonly used and accepted.

I didn't know people got fired up over this, I will continue to interchange what I call them as from what I've read it makes no difference.
