Excalibur Equinox finish coming off....

Post by ELLIS »

Bought my first crossbow on Friday, an Equinox. Love it!!!! I will be using it for 3D tournaments only. I am not a hunter. Fired 30 shots on Saturday morning to break in the Flemish Dynaflight string. I noticed the grove, just below the safety for the cocking aid, has the camo finish worn off to the bare plastic. Is this normal?

Rope burn! Its worse if you use the rope cocker to uncock the bow but yes rolys right, its normal.

To what I understand it is normal. I have an Equinox also and mine has done the same. I now use a Crank-a-roo and am not sure if it would have done it if I would have had the Crank-a-roo when my Equinox was new, but I didn't need it back then. But it sure allows me to shoot my Equinox now, and I am very grateful for that.
Thanks,
Raymond

To prevent that just don't use the rope ****ing aid! Also a great way to build up muscles!
Just kidding, it's very normal and if the deer see that angle your aiming to wrong way!

Are you shooting an all camo model strum? Is it both sides of the grooves?

Maybe Check the nOcks for burrs(near robin hoods)

Yeah got the same thing as strum, but a more noticable on the right side. Just on the edges where the bolt makes contact as it slides.
I think it inevitable it will wear eventually with a lot of shooting, as the realtree skin is made for looks, not as an antiwear material.

What you are seeing is the arrow being pushed slightly harder with one limb than the other. It is very normal. The limbs have a very slight difference in draw weight from one side to the next, the tiny amount of pressure difference is what causes that rub on one side of the rail.
When the limbs are manufactured they are tested and grouped in batches to keep them as balanced as possible, these grouping numbers are printed on the inside of the limb, only visible when the limb is removed from the bow.
Making them "exact" is impossible, what is important is that they are consistent, and that they are.

The groove being worn is normal too, my bow came new like that. What you have a problem with is products that contain "deet", that can strip a finish off pretty quick.
If you are not willing to learn, nobody can help you, if you are willing, nobody can stop you.

Thanks guys, nice to know that it is just normal wear. The scope ordered with it, a Twilight DLX, should arrive in four weeks. Until then I am just using the peep provided. Shocked how accurate that it is.

Cheers,

Bill
