Lousy Day

Post by DaGriz »

I have been so looking forward to my son and Granddaughter coming home for some bowhunting first week in October, I built a "penthouse" blind; 12' in the air , metal roof, carpeted floor, three shooting windows, two easy chairs; right in a extremely productive area. Built this in anticipation of his being here to hunt. Last year I gave him a crossbow and gave my Y25 to his daughter. Left me with nothing but an old Barnett Commando. No big deal as I knew he and my granddaughter would be here.

Got a call from him this morning and he has to leave for Afghanistan mid next month, for his 9th tour "In Harms Way; 4th in Afghanistan . He will be there for 9-12months, depending on his mission. So they won't be coming here to hunt! :( That really took the wind out of my sails. Plus everytime he goes I keep thinking that maybe this time his luck will run out. Sure is no good for an old man to be worrying like this!

I felt the same way when my son went over. All I can say is trust in GOD, We do,it helps us to cope with it better even though we know he is in harms way. Bless you and your son for your sacrifices

If I had a son I could only hope he was so brave. You should be worried and very proud. There will be another hunt. Let it play out Darrel.

darrel, my son too has been there off and on since 96 and is currently
there now !!! i wish he would throw the towel in, but he is look'n at retire'n
in a few years.. i pray every day for his well being and also for all the brave
ones over there. his 3 children, wife and me wait to hear his voice on the phone. that way we can relax until tomorrow's dawn over there.
we are proud of all that are part of that action. and we know that god will protect as needed. because we have faith in him and his son.

darrel, i know he would want you to hunt that house for him with that barnett
commando. it will do the job and we know you can also.
keep the easy chair warm for them, cuz they will be there soon

one thing is for sure.... things ain't like it was when i was in the jungle...
them rags will never be as smart as them ones i was up against.

and i'm glad our soldiers don't have to deal with that kinda mentality.

Darrel, I don't know what else to say to you other than my heart and thoughts are with you and your family. It will work out my friend and you'll be content when your son comes home.

Even if only in my dreams
I'll be with you in the blind
if but only in my thoughts
together some time we'll find

Know that my touched spirit
cherishes the work of your hands
I'll return again to hunt with you
when I'm done hunting in the sands

Thanks for all the great responses! He knows how to take care of himself, but.....
I remember my time in 'Nam, 65-67, as a SnakeEater who actually worked for the CIA. My son had to follow in my foosteps, against me advice, scares me to death as I know what it's like on those missions!

At least this time I know where he is, usually he says he's off with his counter/anti terrorist team and that's all he can say. I don't know where he is going or when he'll be back. He's been on so many missions, and he can't tell me about them! This is the worst one for me as I was so looking forward to his coming here to hunt. It is the only time I get to see him, once a year or every other year!
I guess when you get older you worry more and get too sentimental! :(
