Hi, I have an Axiom bow with the Flemish string. I wanted to know if this fraying is normal and if not what can I do about it? It is happening on both ends..
That's not fraying, it's normal for a flemish twist string made for crowbows.
Usually flemish twist strings made for recurve vert bow, have their entire tag ends tapered and locked into the main string. However, with crossbow strings which need 2 to 3 times the number of strands, leaving the last fraction of an inch of the tag end exposed is the best method to construct a flemish twist string. Another advantage is that those ends act like "cat-whiskers".
BTW, I notice by your pic, that your string is a stock factory made string, and it is a good string for the price. However, if you'd like to own a higher quality flemish string, you can order a custom crafted flemish twist string. It might seem to cost more, but it's longevity makes it worth the price.
Currently, the only one I know making them is Boo (aka Don).
