Picking out a broadhead...

Post by Panhandler80 »

First year with the crossbow, but like I have done the past few years with my V bow, I"m pulling my hair out trying to decide what to shoot this season.

I have about 3 weeks before we open, but it'll be here before I know it.

I have had varying degrees of sucess with Rage 2 blade out of my Matthews and I'm considering giving the Rages a shot with my new Excalibur.

Question for those of you that shoot Rages... Do you use their "Crossbow Broahdead" or just the regular 2 blade? The "Crossbow" is 1.75" cutting diameter, whereas the the regular 2 blade is 2".

I kind of like the idea of the 2" cutting diameter, even though it comes in only 100 grain. The crossbow version comes in either 100 or 125.

I use regular rage 2 blade broadhead, and have no complaints...I didnt even know they made special broadheads for crossbow's until this year...I like the hole they make, and they fly straight too!

The crossbow version has a much better hold on the blades. I've got both. The regular version isn't held as tight, which is why they pop open in your quiver. A 1/4" won't matter if you hit it in the right spot. I would and did go with the 125 grain for the better FOC.

Ah ha...

I was wrong. It looks like they now offer a 125 grain original 2 blade... the one with the 2" cutting diameter.

I'm shootin an Axiomm with the Exel string, so we're only talking like 285 fps. I don't think I need to worry about the blades deploying prematurely at that speed. Do you guys?

the NAP spitfire 125gr !!!!!!!!!! last year i had very good results with blood trails on whitetail. but as most of you well seasoned hunters know, it matters most of where you put that broadhead.
