A Perfect Hunt

Post by Aero320 »

Went to the woods this morning and the conditions were perfect. Saw a buck and a doe across a big field and the big buck started walking towards me along the edge of the field. At 20 yards, I hammered him with the Excal Exocet 200 and Spitfire. Pass through shot and the deer took off running towards my boat. You see, I am hunting public land around a lake so before daylight, I loaded the hunting equipment into the boat and headed to a remote area. Hiked up a valley to the top of the hill and climbed a tree with my Lone Wolf climbing stand. I had showered with scent free soap, clothes had been treated for scent. Was wearing regular camo, scent lok suit, and leafy camo on top. None of that mattered because the light wind was blowing my scent away from the deer. I saw the deer in plenty of time to get positioned for the shot and made the kill. I had located these deer earlier in the month during squirrel season.

This was the second time hunting with a crossbow, the first yeilded a wild turkey. Also, for you first time crossbow users who worry about the noise, don't worry about it. I saw no reaction in the dear from the bow noise and heard the arrow pass through the deer's chest cavity.

After hunting with a compound bow for nearly 20 years, and now with two Excal kills under my belt, I can tell you that crossbow hunting is easier!

Nice buck, congrats. Wish I could figure out how to get them to run towards my vehicle after being shot.
