WHAT A SHOT!

Post by BBDOWN »

I took my boy out with me today and he blew me away and made me mad at the same time. We got in the blind at 3 and he was the shooter I thought we had about an hour before we would see any deer so I started playing a game on his phone, twenty minutes in he say dad look and there was a doe, I ranged her at 75yrds and told him wait she will come across the feild,Now all year long we have been playing a game of who can shot the best not thinking I should have told him the game ends when deer season begins 40yrds is max but ...brainfart not thinking he would take the shot I ranged her again and told him 67yrds and befor I could say anything the bolt was gone! I watched in horror as the luminok went across the feild and hit her right behind the shoulder. I couldent beleave what I just saw do I give him crap or jump up and down! I could not make a shot like that all year and here my 12yr could, luck? maybe but I jumped up and down. the rage did the job.I waited till after we had are hands on the deer before I told him that that was not a shot I ever wanted to see him try again and that he was lucky that he did'nt hurt her insted of kill her. I should have talked to him before we went out but I never thought that would happen. Anyway by far the cool'est day hunting ever I'll get some pics up when I figure out how. Take a kid hunting there are future

And my 8 yard shot didn't pan out . . . :?

Next time, I'll do a better job on the set up . . .get a longer shot. :)

Congrats to the boy! 8)

Awesome! When you're that young you can think you're Robin Hood. Good thing it worked out for him!

What crossbow did he make the shot with?...and arrow?

Congrats go out to you and your Son! Hey, it happens. I might be a little miffed in your situation, but I'd be proud that the kid practices regularly enough to know how to shoot!
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4

Just when you think they won't, kids will do something and show you up before you know it.

Congrats to you and your boy! BTW, that's longer than almost all of the gun shots I've taken at deer.

Jump up and down and give some hi fives and then explain why it's better from now on too wait for them to come in for a closer shot. Congrats to you both on your deer. :)

If he wasn't hooked before I am sure he is now.
long shot most would not have taken but it all worked out in the end and he now knows to get them in a little closer so he doesn't give the old guy a heart attack.

Congrats on the shot. I want to know how far the bow was sighted in at and where your boy aimed. That's unreal. Gary

Good shot ! Congrats. I'm glad it worked out for him and the deer.
It probably wasn't the best learning curve. It would be easy for a young bloke to take one good shot and think, "That wasn't so hard"....I could do that again easy....
