What a morning!
Man, what a morning! Today is Georgia’s opening day of rifle season. Down here in the south, gun season is nothing more than a social gathering. Every one wants to go out and hunt but few have the patients to sit for any length of time in order to get one. So I figured I would work that to my advantage.
Last night I got to thinking that with gun season opening up in the morning, every body and their brother would be in the woods waiting on the deer. I knew no one should be on the property I hunted but there are several tracks of land around me that should have hunters. Being as I rarely ever gun hunt (crossbow only) I planed to be there so that when Billy Bob and his 6 cousins got cold and frustrated not seeing anything and got up and started roaming the woods pushing deer…I would be there to take advantage of it. I have hunted this track of land for almost 6 years now and have a very good working knowledge of the escape routes they use when pushed.
Sure enough about 7:30 this morning the gun shots started. I only heard 4 or 5 but some of them were close enough that I figured it would be worth staying till lunch time, but I never made it that long. Most of the time hunters here start getting ready to leave around 9 or 10 and that’s when they start usually pushing deer.
Around 9:30, I saw the first group come sneaking in making their way toward my tree stand. In all I saw 28 deer this morning with 6 of them being bucks. All but one of the bucks were young deer, small racks and small bodies, but one of them…well, I’ll just say that I only have one buck tag left so I’ll be saving that one just for him.
Unfortunately for one fat doe… well she got to close to the stand to turn down so now I have deer to process.
Always a good sign after the shot.
Where she fell at.
My two little pigmy trackers. Laramee, the oldest and Keona, my youngest, are always ready to help with the dragging and cleaning.

Congrats on the doe!!!
Sounds like you played it smart and let all the other yahoos do the work for you. During our muzzleloading or gun seasons here in KY, I hunt all day. The gun season is in the middle of the rut usually, so there's no telling what you'll see. Plus, I stay put in case people decide to push any toward me, just like with your situation.
She looks like a big ol' nanny! Should be some good eatin'!

Re: What a morning!
She was facing me coming up a little rise at about 20 yards. She started acting a little squirelly as if she was about to run so I put it on the upper part of the chest so it would angle down to the heart and lungs. It hit her in the lower part of the neck where it connected into the chest and burried deep. She carried the arrow with her as she ran and broke it after she hit the ground. She only went about 40 yards. Good news is I got my broadhead back.
