Doe down...season done
I said at the beginning of the season that the first doe or mature buck that presented an opportunity would be the one that I take and this morning, that happened. And sorry, I took her with my Matthews Switchback XT.
My wife actually had her pager go off last night and I figured my morning was a wash, but she came home at 2am after completing her task and told me I should still go out and that she'd be fine running on coffee for the day.
I got into my stand an hour before sunrise and took in the morning. By 9am, I was actually feeling a little bad for leaving my wife at home with the kids after five hours of sleep or so, so I was getting ready to leave. I was placing my call lanyard around my neck, as it had been hanging on a branch beside my stand and as I was doing so, I caught something in my peripheral vision. Sure enough, a doe had snuck into the field while I was packing up and she was staring right at me. She bounded to the other side of the field, not alarmingly, but I think she was a little confused regarding what I was.
I thought that if deer were moving currently, that I'd sit for another half an hour. Sure enough, two does and two fawns made their way up the side of a corn field and the lead doe walked right into my shooting lane at 30 yards. The fletchings buried into her side and she worked the arrow out somewhere while she was running. I never did find it. Watch your step munch.
That's the season for me. Got out twice, saw deer both times, took the first shot opportunity. If I had another tag, my wife would probably put it around my toe. But, that being said, get this...she had the garage cleaned out for me when I got home. She's awesome.
Good luck to everyone for the rest of the season.

Hunter's doing just fine. He's definitely ready for some more advanced training. Unlike a lot of folks who pressure their dogs into hunting, I like to observe when my dog is ready to hunt, when their natural instincts start coming out.
At eight months (in a couple weeks) he's ready to hunt. The instincts have kicked in and he's rarin' to go.
Now that deer season's done for me...I'll be focussing on him with live birds.

Congrats on your successful hunt!
Now if you can just get the wife to gut and butcher that deer you can go off and have some fun with the dog!!

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.
