WIFES GOT HER 1st CROSSBOW BUCK

Post by wayne »

My wife had stoped bowhunting awhile back, because of being un-able to draw it back any more. So this year I bought each of us a new excal.
Anyway, while hunting last Friday night, (she was not sure she really wanted to go out that night because she was tired, :? ) she had a 4 point come in to bow range, AND SHE MADE THE SHOT, she said the buck was broadside, she was watching it though the lumi-zone, she must not have seen it start to quarter to her before she shot, but the x-act broadhead did it job, (this is our 1st year using mech. head, & I was still alittle unsure of them). The shot ended up being alittle off from where I would like to see it, it entered center of the deer about 4" behind the shoulder, (looking at the hide it was not opened fully, but looking at were it entered the rib cage, it was fully opened, perfect...the exit was nasty looking, the head must have rode just under the hide & slit the hide for over 8" in front of the back leg, & the arrow was in the ground up to the fleching. She said she thought she hear it fall, because of work I started tracking about 45 min's after she hit it. The blood trail started about 20 yards from where it was hit, as soon as I found blood, I heard a deer get up & start crashing though the brush, work be damned, we pulled out & waited 3 hours, after going back to the blood trail we found the deer had went about 50 yards & laid down, blood all over in that spot, the crashing I heard must have been that buck, the blood trail was about avg. not great, but not poor. The area the buck went in to is like a mossy bog, about 40 more yards from where it got up we lost blood, but the buck was just a few feet from there, about 90% of the blood we found seemed to come from it's mouth & nose.
Now she's one up on me with a crossbow

Way 2 go.

I hunted Michigan for the first time around Standish this weekend.

All I can say WOW you have a bunch of deer in that part of the state. I got close to getting a shot on a nice doe. Needless to say I like Michigan even more now than before!!!
I will be back in a few weeks.

Congrats to the Mrs. I have not shot a mechanical yet...but the X-act is the one I would like to try just to see how they work out. I am surprised there was not more blood as by your description, it sounded like she about halved the thing lol

Congrats on your first croosbow deer. I'm sure it won't be the last! :)

Congrats to your wife!

And congrats to both of you for enjoying the sport together! I LOVE to read about couples who support each other and share their love for the outdoors.
