Achery only tags in ontario

Post by bigbuck »

I am wondering if anyone knows if the archery only tags take you get from the MNR are good for bucks and does, or just antlerless deer.

They're good for either one.

Call the MNR first to see if they have tags available for the WMU you want and find out WHERE the tags are available. Some WMUs still have plenty of tags, but they're only available at a couple of locations.

im confused about the replys to bigbuck, in wnu 89 the extra deer seals are for anterless deer only. If were talking about extra deer seals different wmu"s must have their own rules, best check the wmu you want to hunt to find out if bucks or anterless or both are legal.

I can only speak from my own experience in WMUs I hunt.

It should say on the tag whether it is for antlered, antlerless or both.

The OP says nothing about them being "extra" tags.

Tags not marked with anything (just yellow paper) are antlered only. If you just bought your license and tag, and didn't apply for the draw this is what you have.

If it is good for antlerless (ie: You applied for the draw and were successful, your tag will say "Valid for antlerless deer in WMU ___- for bow season only". With this tag you can take either sex.
If you can't set a good example, at least serve as a horrible warning.

My 94B additional tag is antlerless only. Looks like it varies depending on WMU.

Boy this is confusing. I've seen a similar post on 4 different boards. Would it be time for the MNR to reword the tags so it's clearer for hunters? Too many people are unsure to blame it on Joe Public.

If you're not part of the solution, you might be part of the problem.

Look at the original telephone brouchure that was sent to us from the MNR. It tells you the hunt code that you would have applied for and where it was Antlerless or Antlered , OR Antlerless only or in the case of 78 A&B it is Antlered only. Differ codes are listed separately as to the restrictions. That same info is on the extra tag.

Each additional WMU Tag is different and depends on your area. The tag will specify which type of animal can be harvested right on the front ..

Hope this helps.

OK....WHO EXACTLY determined we were talking about *EXTRA* tags?

Somebody early on started on the whole "additional tag" thing, and it seems everyone else has jumped on the bandwagon.

The OP's post could be about regular tags....and the info he is being given by people on their assumption that he was asking about supplementals could get him in gobs of trouble.

There's a very nice summary someone put together on OOD - all the deer options. Look it up.
I agree the systems is confusing as hell and MNR does sucky job at it as with some other things.

Well either way your tag regargless of Primary or Additional states what you can harvest.

How be we ask the poster what he was referring to instead of jumping on everyone who was willing to try to help?

Just my opinion from up here in the cheap seats~!

I think Sandman answered it very well with his pictures . With what is printed on the front of the tag is what the tag is valid for and where .
