Aggravating nanny

Post by theoldarcher »

I‘ve been hunting an oak flat on top of the hill across the street which has very limited cover and for the past week I have had my butt handed to me by a young doe. She’s busted me five times in that week’s time. I've tried using a ground blind and switched to a burlap blind just to see if that would make a difference, but to no avail. I even set up my ground blind as a decoy and then used my burlap blind to set up on her a little further up and she still got me. This young doe seems like she was born with all the savvy and smarts of a granny nanny. I hate to sound like it’s personal between her and me but…she is really starting to get under my skin, especially since she cost me a shot at a good 8 this morning. The battle lines have been drawn, now it’s just a matter of seeing which one of us will win the war.

Thats funny! I spent 24 years in L.E. and am a certified counter sniper in Georgia. After I first got into L.E. Gunny Hathcock was a guest at the Georgia Department of Public Safety and was a speaker at the facility. One of my most cherished memories was getting to meet Gunny Hathcock.

Yup, hunt her first. She's too smart to try and work around.

From working with horses, I know that the old mares run the herd. They do the protecting, they order the herd hierarchy, they move the group from place to place, they are the one that are most alert and most suspicious. All the other horses take their lead from the actions and attitude of the lead mare.

From what I've seen in watching groups of does it's much the same - those old does are warier than bucks!

Good luck getting by her!

We'll be waiting for the updates! :D

One place my uncle and I used to bowhunt several years ago, there was an old doe up there that would come around the ridge LOOKING for you. :x She would walk a few steps, stop, and start scanning the trees ahead looking for someone in a treestand. Once she saw you, she would run off about 75 yards and stay there for the rest of the evening blowing at you. :x We hunted out of portable stands and tried every way in the world to get by that old b**ch! Nothing seemed to work. It didn't matter where we moved our stands to, she would always find us.

"Rumor" has it............  My uncle went up there one evening with a .22 magnum and took care of our little problem.  Of course, I can neither confirm nor deny that this actually happened.
