luminoks not staying all that tight

Post by Panhandler80 »

As would only be common sense in my opinion, I have been target practicing with luminoks.

Shot a deer last Friday and it turned off
shot target just now and when I went to loosen nock yo turn it off, the whole thing slipped out. So far, I'm NOT impressed.

They are the right ones for GT laser two bolts. .3001 or something like that.

Suggestions? Trying to go tomorrow pm.

Switch to 2216 Easton superslams. The luminok for this
arrow fits beautifully.

I had 2 bolts that were loose as well - I was told to wrap paper around it and insert it back in. I tried that and had little success as the paper bound up and came into contact with the connection. I then took scotch tape and put it on before inserting the noc and so far its working well.

I will advise with the field trials I hope to conduct in the near future.

Here's what I did.

Attempt 1: some receipt paper (nice and thin). I wrapped it aroun the top of the nock and just like Sandman, I had it rid up a little bit and get in the way of the connection.

Attempt 2: Receipt paper wrapped around the bottom of the nock. Contacts stayed clear, but it didn't get it tight enough.

Attmept 3: Smeared some super-glue around top of nock. Wrapped receipt paper arouund it. I figured the glue would keep the paper from riding up and getting in way of contact. I made sure it was GOOD AND DRY... like 10 minutes, and the went to insert nock. paper pretty much stayed put, but it did ride up just a little bit, and of course... it did so right at the contact. I muscled the nock back out, trimmed the receipt paper where it was sticking out a litle bit, mashed her back down, and it worked... sort of. Nock very tight in arrow, but so tight it wouldn't move forward enough for it to be fully repositioned. It would just budge this-a-way... light on, and then budge back out that-a-way... liight off.

I just applied pressure over and over and over again and eventually loosened it up enough so that it actually "slides" forward a little bit as opposed to just compressing paper somewhere around the perimiter of that nock, and now when I apply far less pressure than a cross bow string would, the light comes on, stays on and is down right difficult to turn off! I think we have a winner. Kind of wish I'd done that to all my bolts now. Oh well... hopefully I'll only need one today!!!!!!

I cut acouple strips of plastic grocery bag. Put them 90 degrees from contacts lengthways draping out and over OD of arrow (cut off later) shove nock in. Its been working for me. Sounds like you have them good to go. I would think you could use paper strips this way also?

Yeah... that sounds a WHOLE lot easier.

I feel pretty stupid now having monkeyd around with it for as long as I did last night.

Only advantage to my way might (and I say might) be that I run less of a risk of the nock not being seated property because your method might make it want to pivot about those two high spots now inside the shaft. Whereas mine is wedged all the way around the ID. However, I don't imagine that would ever happen and if you're shooting good groups, then it's probably not an issue.

I'll definitely be doing it your way next time.

I sure wish Nokturnal would come out with some crossbow nocks. I loved the ones that I used in my bow arrows. Loved em. Kind of a pain to turn off, but who cares.

EDIT: Of course the current Nockturnal design would not work on a flat butt design nock for a crossbow. I jsut wish there was one out there that could move (just a little) inside bolt without light going off.

I take a piece of dental floss , lay it over the opening and push the luminok in. Use more than 1 piece if necessary. Been using this method for 2 yrs and works for me
